Hi, mac user:
When you see this article, 99% you are in trouble...
You never consider connecting to a professional/hi-end monitor like U2410 could be a problem before you decide to buy it for your "good boy"-11 macbook(or maybe 12..13)

However, you've come to the right place to solve this annoying problem and you may also get a chance to know some technical detail, as I have first-hand experience and I'm a geek.

How to get Dell U2410 monitor works under its native resolution 1920*1200?
A: The best way is to buy one miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort cable (not a adaptor), not from apple store, amazon, ebay, but from MonoPrice or CircuitAssembly.
Monoprice link: Bi-direction cable - miniDP to DP,
It is a little bit cheaper than CA's due to different length.B: The second choice= miniDP to DP adaptor( male miniDP-female DP) + DP to DP cable. This should work too( I didn't try but someone did).C: Why not HDMI or DVI?
1 HDMI only output 1920*1080, whereas U2410 support 1920*1200. So, some normal fonts may looks weird or not sharp.
2 Some(or all) miniDP to HDMI/DVI cable doesn't work well with 2011 new MBP due to unknown Apple design's bug(not only for U2410 but also for apple's cinema monitor). Some may treat the LCD as TV ... Some may only support low and ugly resolution when successful connected... Some are recognized correctly by MBP but show nothing... All above cases were reported from different forums...I just collected not encounter each one T_T!! (Yeah, you see why many people will search and come here someday)
3 Oh, yes, you still can try the miniDP to HDMI/DVI adaptor + normal HDMI/DVI cable
If HDMI, it have to suffers from the resolution problem to some extent.
if DVI, it's fine. And you'd better to buy a good quality DVI adaptor as some gays's cheap adaptor stop to work no more than 2 month.D: Why not Dual-Dvi?
There are some gays who recommend miniDP to Dual-Dvi adaptor + normal Dvi cable.
i, don't mix up Dual-Dvi with D-Dvi. (Basic DVI Knowledge)
ii, check Dell U2410 Official Info or wiki, no info show U2410 support Dual-DVI well.
iii, Dual-DVI adaptor is designed for those big monitors which have the resolution >=1920*1200, size >=27', or support refresh rate >=120hz.
iv, this hi-level adaptor is too expensive... -_-, no one said he use this stuff by himself just for U2410, an entry-level professional IPS monitor

D How about other opinions?
Two discussions from Apple Support Communities
1 2011 MBP and DELL-U2410 Monitor Problem
2 Thunderbolt port to mini DisplayPort cable to Dell U2410 - grainy display

some useful hint for Dell U2410.
A: In my opinion, U2410 is still the best monitor in the entry-level professional graphic monitor for my tight budget so far, with tilt +IPS+ plenty connectivity+110% color gamut. (the only comparable one is HP LP2475w, and I wouldn't compare them any more as more than thousands of gays had compared year by year... now HP have released new 24'ZR as the reinforce to LP2475, whereas U2410 still hold). If you could get one from $300~350 (maybe by Ebay) without any defective-pixel and obvious scratch, you needn't hesitate.

B: How to switch to U2410 as main display? Just keep your power connection and close your MBP's screen.C: What's the difference between different models of U2410, likeA2~A5?
Yea, there is a little difference between A2 and A3/A4/A5, please references here.
You can ignore this problem, if you have warranty.

D: How to calibrate color?
References this post.
My data for calibrating color as following:
1 U2410 setting: brightness 70, contrast 56
2 U2410 Preset Modes>Custom Color:
Gain: R100 G100 B100
Offset: R55 G45 B53
Hue: R50 G50 B50 C52 Y49 M52
Sat: R53 G45 B52 C48 Y52 M48
3 Use mac sys calibrate adjust gamut, and repeatedly contract different test pic in lagom-monitor-test.

After about two weeks web research and basic validation, I finally got my rough idea: the interaction in virtual 3d scene.

The thinking steps are as following graphics.
1 All the important elements should focus on the feasibility of the project.

2 For each key element, list possible solution or do the research first.

In this analysis period, I have to solove three subtasks :
i What's the possible device lists? And which one is the most suitable?
Device comparison.
ii What's the basic principle and process of recognition technology? And which tech could be adopted in my project?
Gesture Recognition.
iii What's the implementation steps? Is there any typical technology to finish my goal?
VR/AR.

And then I got :

3 Reach a general implementation by combining use-case, data-flow, and collaboration between basic items.

Now, I still have some problems:
1 Is my time enough to finish?
2 Kinect is weak at role-movement/direction due to it just recognition motion and no one would run in the room.
3 How do design a real 3D scene, not just a role on the plain ?
4 Is IK system difficult to study?

Maybe, you have seen a lot of AR APPs,demos without realizing that is AR. Now, mainstream AR show could be divided into two paradigms according to its different using circumstance. One pattern is using AR locally, which mean that the experiment/demo has to rely on some fixed device, like webcam, projector, therefore this kind of APP may be just a gimmick for fun but not useful. And another one is mobile pattern, which allow customer use it everywhere but usually under the low resolution of the cellphone-camera.

As a newbie, I confused about which kind of interactive project could be done in my this semester. But I believe it would be some interaction between people and pc as I'm not good at designing hardware by using different martial and components. So, the computer must have an "ability" to know what the people are saying or doing, namely some recognition tech, especially gesture recognition.

After browsing more than 100 webpages about recognition related demos and intro, I could give a very simple overview map about gesture recognition( this structure is mainly based on its wiki). I have add very typical video demos into my map to show what concept really mean.
The links has a "earth" labels, and please click outline-button and then click the links.

At least now, we should know microsoft's Kinect use a very different technology from wii and PS-eye&move due to the different cameras they used, and that's why kinect don't need the controller, except U.

As to my project plan, if you're interested in, read this (included more amazing demos I collected).

Johnson's presentation video used enormous amount of illustrators, and showed us a vivid picture about how the really great ideas come out-the slow hutch progress. I can't agree with this opinion more. Maybe some simple good ideas in our daily life can appear when something stimulate our inspiration, but the really useful ideas, like how to invent a new product or provide a new kind of service, need mutual inspiration, validation and even long time waiting in order to get the right time window to put the idea into practice without unnecessary sacrifice.

As to "wants of technology", I feel this is maybe one of the foremost connoisseurs of technology at beginning. But I find KK has write these in 2005, what a predicting work. However, I believe inner factor which drive the technology is still the desire of man. And I agree with KK's conclusion: "We don't always have to do what technology wants, but I think we need to begin with what it wants so that we can work with these forces instead of against them". Everyone need understood the technology's tendency to keep up with the times.

A: I like cartoon movie "Ghost in the Shell" and its serials, which was directed by Mamoru Oshii and was first published in 1995. "Ghost in the Shell" could be understood as "Mobile Armoured Riot Police" . Its original novel was written by the Shirow Masamune (pen name),a japanese SF writer&illustrator. The main series-"Stand Alone Complex" takes place in 2030, where many people are cyborgs with prosthetic bodies. And the core roles, Public Security Section 9, was established as a search and rescue organization officially, but it is actually a counter-terrorist network and anti-crime unit. Section 9 and its members are among the best cyber warfare operatives in the country, and as a result usually end up involved in cases relating to the internet, such as hacking and cyberterrorism.
Even Wachowski Brothers, the directors of the famous movie "The Matrix", were said this animated film had great impacts on their film idea.

3. What do you like about the internet?
I like internet world, because it eliminates physical distance, reduces information inequality, and then promote human collective intelligence greatly. When offline, I always feel I'm far away from this world to some extent.

Internet makes too much things become possible, but not always simple. I may waste a lof time when I make a new decision as I will collect all kinds of info and others feedbacks or commets related to my decision to figure out the best choice I can make.
